Effects of TV Viewing on Family
TV watching and disorders
TV viewing can be a social event if it does not encourage you and your family to be brain dead. Some people, some families spend hours watching TV with zero communication, sometimes in separate rooms. Their whole life is structured around TV. These families have a need for the TV to be on all throughout the day. From the moment they get up they switch it on, and they only switch it off when they go to bed. These people do not know what they are watching. They have a need for something to hypnotize them. They have lost orientation in life. TV can prevent families from being present in life and even present with each other. Instead they spend their time in a continuous virtual dream world. They do little else but watch TV.
However TV watching can lead to topics of discussion in the family about all aspects of culture and what is going on in the world, or about funny subjects. It can be a good way of relaxing together. There are some good comedies that can make you laugh. TV is not a bad thing in moderation. But people can become addicted to TV and it can have some negative effects.
- TV is like food. You are what you consume and fill you self with. There is some positive stuff on TV. TV is mental food for the brain. However the only trouble is that 90% of it is junk food and a complete waste of time. Life is too short to spend 80% of your spare time watching TV. Some programs on TV can fill you with useless energy, negativity and depression. It amazes me how people give TV so much attention. Look at some of the UK soap operas for instance. Some of these are really negative and depressing. These soaps are filled with people arguing, moaning, winging and being depressed. Depressing people watch these types of TV programs for comfort, because it resonates with them. They can identify with it. They are watching dead enders going nowhere and wasting their life. If you watch these types of soaps you are filling yourself with low quality energy, which is not going to help you in life at all.
- Personally I can not stand TV any more. It does not have goods effects on me. I can not tolerate TV as a background noise and would much prefer the silence. Other people need TV as a background noise because they can not stand the silence. It means they are not at peace with themselves or other people. TV is an illusion. If you are watching depressing and miserable content then you will absorb that and become like that yourself. Your own life will turn into a negative miserable drama. You will start taking on bad communication skills and a bad immature negative attitude towards life.
- When I meditate I have to get up at 5:00am in the morning when there is complete silence because I can not meditate when I can hear any type background noise such as TV, because I will end up meditating on the background noise instead and that energy will start to fill me. This causes me to become angry. TV makes me very angry sometimes. When you are trying to meditate on something positive and then you start hearing TV in the background you start to experience the true nature of that energy. It can be offensive. TV can be the mental equivalent to eating bad junk food.
- The news is even worse, and is designed to appeal to your emotions of concern, fear, depression and helplessness. Governments even use the media to generate a false sense of fear to get public support on a particular policy for instance. The news is always negative and pessimistic. You do not need the news. If you need to know something important someone will tell you. Or you can take a brief look at the top headlines on the internet for instance. This is much better than watching the news. Even so you still probably will not find anything useful on there. The news is not even a true objective representation of what is going on anyway. It is a big illusion.
One of the secrets for overcoming anxiety disorders and depression is to reduce and eliminate negative content in your life. It means focussing on positive things. Because you absorb the energy of what you focus on. I am always thinking about my spiritual process, about love, or thinking on divine souls such as Swami, Jesus and Baba. Reading positive books and materials is always good, and surrounding yourself with loving people, or having a Loving parter to share your time and energy with- with lots of Love and high energy. With lots of Love and high energy, low negative and dense energy can not survive. It has to change or go. When you turn on the light darkness has to disappear. Enjoy good TV moderately with your family, but do not become addicted to it and let it become a disorder for you. Have fun and enjoy Love and life. It is good to give children their own television if they want one, otherwise you are restricting their freedom. They should be able to watch TV in their room if they want to. As a family it is also okay to watch TV, but not overdo it. Music and playing music is a good resplacement for TV.
