Office Stress Management Techniques in the Workplace
Underlying causes of stress in the office environment
Although your job is stressful, you are learning about what you do not want and what is not good for you and others. If you know what you hate you know what you like. Years of being in the wrong job may help you appreciate the right job. The right job is full of love that fulfils real and true needs. The right job is making life easier and happier for people. The right job is about giving Love fully and receiving Love fully. The right job is all about working for Love. The right job is enjoyable. Doing what you love to do there is no difference between your perfect job and your family life. All is filled with love, peace and joy as one happy family.
This life is a game of learning how to Love and finding out who you are. What you are learning now you are learning for eternity, even though it may seem stressful or painful. Where there is Love- stress disappears. In the perfect job for you there is no stress. The only pressure you have is the pressure you put on yourself because you Love achieving goals and your work is a pleasure. There is a difference between stress and pressure. It is good to feel some healthy pressure but it does not cause any stress or negative tension.
Offices can be stressful places. The body is designed to be multi-tasked and work outside in nature, to work in natural sunlight and to breath in natural air performing work using your hands and body. Rather than sitting in one place inside all day in a chair- doing something uncomfortable or repetitive. Stress can be defined as physical and emotional tension caused by external stimuli exerting pressure onto a person. Pressure can affect a person indirectly. Lets look at some of common underlying causes of stress in the workplace.
- Jobs can cause stress when you are not actually doing anything useful or helping anyone, when you are just there to clear up mess of what other people are too lazy to do. Inner tension is caused when you are doing work that is useless, or if your capacity to love and make a difference in the world is limited. This includes administration work. There is no need for administration jobs, because every single person should each do their own administration work. In this type of job you are clearing up mess or bad karma of others. This applies to legal professions that involve dealing with the mess of other people, or punishing people or restricting the freedom of people, or being unable to have the capacity to help people.
- Jobs can cause stress when there is no prospect for development. For a job to be satisfying and if you want to be free from unnecessary tension, there needs to be a steady flow of development on different levels. This includes development in expert skills and working relationships. A person needs to be able to Love, to produce and create- products and services that fulfil the needs of all their customers. Some jobs offer no opportunity for development. This means no prospect for increased personal satisfaction and financial independence.
- You need to be able to utilize all your innate talents, abilities and inborn creativity. If you are not producing high quality products or services, if you are not being all that you can be, if there is no prospect of development in such a job and if you are not making your customers happy… then YOU are not happy, you hate your job and are stagnated in life. You are stressed and your job is restricting you from being all that you can be. You are stressed because your job does not allow you to Love. Your are stressed because you can not utilize all your unique skills and abilities. You are stressed because the pressure applied on you in your current job is restricting your personal freedom. Your job is not enjoyable. You are just doing it for the money and no other reason.
- Jobs can cause stress when you strive to make profits or achieve goals at the expense of others happiness and freedom. Some people can be under valued or even bullied by management. Some managers have an inhuman attitude towards their employees. They treat them like slaves who are only there to do a job and perform a robotic task. Even though it would be extremely difficult and expensive to replace such a qualified person this kind of attitude can still occur. Some employers do not care about how much pressure they put on their staff, even if it is too much or unreasonable. Stress is causes when your employer does not care about your happiness. A good employer loves their employees and does everything to keep them happy and to protect their well being. An employer may abuse you by making you work extremely long and ridiculous hours on a low salary- such as management positions in retail stores. Your office job may be funded by the government or a corporate body where people do not mind making profits or achieving goals at others expense, sometimes including your own happiness and freedom as an employee. Job stress can be a big cause of morning anxiety. You may hate getting up in the mornings because your job is so terrible. Use the morning anxiety cure to help use your present job to learn, grow and develop.
Office Stress Management Techniques
One way to manage the stress in the office is to learn to see the opportunity in your present job. Despite your job being stressful or unenjoyable, it is presently the most perfect job for you and your spiritual learning process. If you fail to see the lesson in your current job then you will either stay in that job or get another very similar job. Your current job may teach you lessons about what your core values are, how to be strong in life, and the importance of being qualified to do an honest job that fulfils real need of mankind on earth. The way to move on is to first see the opportunity in your present job, for important lessons and experiences for your successful future.
I do not normally suggest coffee for people with anxiety. I normally suggest reducing your caffeine intake down to zero. However if you are working in a boring office environment that requires you to perform even though you do not feel like it, I suggest one strong coffee during your morning brake to wake you up and give you some motivation to perform your job with enthusiasm, alertness and energy. Limit that coffee to one per day during your morning brake. If you do some exercise once a day then this may balance out the negative effects of the coffee.
Before you start work meditate for 5-10 minutes in your car or have a power nap meditation on the bus. If your job is busy or noisy or if you are talking all the time, sometime during your lunch go somewhere and be in the silence for a while and close your eyes and absorb the silence. This will bring you back to your state of peace. The most important techniques for handling stress at work, is a healthy diet and daily exercise, preferably hatha yoga. Exercise burns anxiety. Most highly performing business people emphasise a healthy diet and exercise regime. Bad diet also facilitates stress and anxiety.
Finally you may keep a look out for another job, one that does not need any stress management. The perfect job helps you relieve stress for other people contributing towards making the world a better and more loving happy place. The best place for a job is far away from the corporate world, at a peaceful location, preferably a job that allows you to experience daylight in a natural environment doing something fun and loving.
