Karma Yoga- Feeding and Giving to the Poor and Needy

Understand why spiritual people give to the poor. Giving means selfless action. Giving for the sake of love. Selfless action is a direct path to becoming one with God. It brings the highest peace and happiness. Giving does not mean loosing anything. Giving means diving into an ocean of Love and bliss.

Traditionally this type of selfless action is called, Karma Yoga. It is a form of giving whereby you are not attached to the fruit of your actions. Your actions are not for your own personal benefit or for receiving anything in return. It is a sacrifice of self, time and effort for others and God. Although the actions are performed without any attachment to their fruit, you are gaining tremendous spiritual wealth and happiness that is not subject to desires that come and go.

Wanting to give more and more to the needy, is the same as wanting to become one with God. The more you practice this technique the bigger your soul becomes and the closer to God you get. The same thing applies to healing and helping people. Distance healing is also a form of karma yoga. There are some really needy and poor people here on this planet. Rich people in western countries do not realize that they are a small minority and that most of the world is starving and really poor and needy. When you give to the needy in India you can feel the energy of people's Love touch you. You share in their relief and satisfaction. It is really good for you.

Experience of giving to the poor and needy through karma yoga

When I'm in India I try to collect a lot of coins so I always have handfuls in my pockets. I always make sure I have something to give. If there is no coins then I will give a note. I do not like to say no to anybody. A little amount of money that may seem like nothing to you, can feed someone for weeks in these countries. One of my friends wanted to give a 10 rupee note to an old lady. 10 rupuees is the same as 10p in the UK, which is nothing. You can not even buy anything for 10p in the UK.

When my friend gave her this note, there was a huge gratefulness on her face like she had never seen before. The lady dropped onto her knees and put her hands in prayer position. She started crying and saying "thank you". Another friend who saw this then gave her another 10 rupee note and asked if she was hungry and gave her something to eat.

Wherever we go we always try and make plans for feeding the poor and giving to the needy. It is a great practice on your way to happiness. Don't forget to give in your daily life. Once you're healed of anxiety and depression people are really going to be helped by you. Your life will become a beautiful gift to the globe. Just by knowing you and being in your presence, people will benefit from your Love.
